After the books suggested an end between Hothouse Flowers and London Records
there could be heard a great sigh. An era had come to a close. With no more
heads to consider other than their own, the boys swiftly decided it was time
to put together a live offering. Liam paid a visit to Roger Aimes, head of London
Records. They spoke for over an hour. "It was wonderful to sit and talk
with a man who was so involved in our music yet never got to talk at length
with us." Roger agreed to give them the right to re-record the songs as
a live project. The essence of the CD was done at the National Stadium in Dublin
with one track taken from a show in Tokyo. Robert Malone plays bass
on the 'LIVE' CD. He played bass on the album 'Born' and is currently touring
with David Gray. Wayne Sheehy plays drums on the 'LIVE' CD. He too played drums
on 'Born'.
Rob and Wayne toured with the band in Spain and Germany, as well as at home in Ireland. They also played on a TFI Friday performance of 'You Can Love Me Now'. There are a pair tracks unique to the 'LIVE' album. 'Everlasting' was written in Shankill by Liam. 'Leave Your Troubles Behind' was written on the road and jammed out on the night.
Peter then took the tapes home to his lab. There, he played with what was available to him. The result is an example of his skill as a producer. He also produced the re-working of 'Dont Go'. This is not necessarily the definitive live album. It is more a reference to an era in the life of the band. The band have since toured with only Peter, Fiachna and Liam. Later to be joined by Dave Clarke and Kierán Kennedy. This album is available from this website here.
